We meet Robert for breakfast which turns out to be reasonably good. A selection of juices, fruit, chapati, pastries and a selection of hot items including soup so Robert is happy.
We leave Singida a bit before 9 and drive for 4 hours arriving in Nzera around 1. We are only stopped once by the traffic police today, no fines, so that’s good.
We stop at a truck stop for lunch which we have used before. The food is good and pretty cheap. Each of our meals costs TSh 4,500 (about £1.30)
This afternoon’s drive is uneventful. I smile when we see a lorry with large branches tied to the back. In Tanzania, if a vehicle breaks down they usually collect some large branches from the side of the road and then put them in the road to warn approaching drivers that there is a breakdown ahead. I don’t know if this guy is expecting to breakdown but he is obviously well prepared!!
Mid afternoon we stop in Kahama as Robert wants to buy some extension leads that we will need for tomorrow’s school visit. While we are waiting for him we spot this shop selling every colour of plastic chair you could possibly want.

We arrived in the town of Ushirombo at about 6pm. The New DF Hotel has been recommended to Robert so we stop there. We decide to take a standard room for TSh 50,000 (about £15). It’s not brilliant but will do for one night.
By the time we have sorted out the room, Pete and I can’t really be bothered to go out and find somewhere else to eat so we persuade Robert to eat in the hotel, in retrospect this may have been a mistake as the food wasn’t great and was quite expensive. Oh well we will let Robert choose where we eat tomorrow night.
