Today we are travelling from Dodoma to Moshi, our final destination on this trip, it’s a journey of 318 miles.
Robert and Peter meet us at the hotel and Shabani comes and picks us all up. Pete does a great job taking photos to record the trip. Our aim is to reach Babati by lunchtime.
Around 11.30 we make a short stop to take some photos and stretch our legs.
Carrying on we see Mount Hanang in the distance and eventually just before 1pm, Lake Babati.
Robert wants to check out a different restaurant for lunch but its too busy so we end up eating at the same one we usually use.
After lunch when we leave Babati we find the main road is closed and we have to take a detour.
Luckily it’s not too long before we are back on the main road again.
We pass the turn off for Tarangire National Park before reaching the outskirts of Arusha where we get a nice view of Mount Meru.
We use the bypass to avoid the traffic in the centre of town. Robert has mentioned during the afternoon that we need to call in on his dad who lives near Arusha National Park. His dad has a farm and we need to collect some corn for Robert’s wife. It’s about 5.15pm when we turn off the main road and as you can see from the photos the standard of the road deteriorates the further we go.
It takes a good 30 minutes to reach the farm but when we arrive we are made very welcome. Robert’s mum even gives me a gift of a kanga which is very sweet of her.
Traffic is heavy but not awful and apart from a quick stop to pick up Robert’s friend Abdullah there are no real holdups. As we drive we get some nice views of Kilimanjaro, it seems she is welcoming us.
By the time we get to Moshi it is gone 7.30 and dark. We are staying at B&B called More Than A Drop where we have stayed many times before. We are welcomed by Neema and shown to our room in the new block of garden rooms which is lovely. We say goodbye to Shabani who will now get the bus back to Moshi and say we will catch up with Robert tomorrow.
We then order a bottle of wine and some food before heading to bed.
